Resurgence Theatre Company in partnership with the Newmarket Public Library and the Ontario Arts Foundation invited students, adults and seniors to participate in one or all of our free professional theatre workshops:

INTRODUCTION TO ACTING
Instructor: Robert Gontier - Drama Instructor, Lorraine Kimsa Theatre For Young People

This class offered the basic fundamentals of acting for the stage with an emphasis on creative expression through theatre exercises and explorations. Attendees learned the necessary stage elements to help promote performance skills, focus and teamwork, and be encouraged to use their own talent as a launching off point to further their acting potential - an ideal class for beginners.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: BUILDING A LIFE

This workshop gave attendees an interactive hands-on experience that will provided them with new tools to make any character that you portray a fuller person. The discovered simple methods to use information gleaned from the text as well as internal information to make their acting role more exciting.

PRACTICAL GUIDE TO SHAKESPEARE

Unleashing Shakespeare’s text and ‘mining’ for the words that help actors and directors stage a play. The discussion focused on Shakespeare’s ideology on the theatre and how it reflected the times he lived in. Attendees hopefully came away with a better understanding of how to approach his texts and how to find the clues Shakespeare has given us to achieve a higher level of performance.

AUDITION TECHNIQUE

This workshop examined the audition process and offered practical advice for improving ones audition technique, choosing the right audition material, what can and should be done to make sure you’re prepared and relaxation techniques. The discussion also included how to navigate the professional theatre and film industry including how to get your acting career started.
