TWELFTH NIGHT DAZZLES AUDIENCES
Resurgence Theatre Company did it again, wowing crowds throughout the month of August with their production of Twelfth Night, part of the York Shakespeare Festival. Thanks to the brilliant cast and crew the show was fabulous, from the actor's performances to the sets and costumes. Without the support of many great sponsors such as Cachet, iPLANcorp, Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, Newmarket Blooms and Magna, the festival simply would not have been the same. TWELFTH NIGHT
Instead of the typical pantomime of showing the shipwreck that separates twins Viola and Sebastian, director Wilson has chosen to open Twelfth Night by making use of the beautiful, bucolic setting; he places a man and woman, in turn-of-the-century-style mourning-wear, at either of the performance space behind the stage, standing out looking over the duck-filled stream running past. It takes the action out of the performance space proper, making the entire area in and around the tent open for theatrical performance and artistic endeavor. [ Read the review ]

TWELFTH NIGHT JEWEL IN RESURGENCE LINEUP
At one point in William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, the puritanical Malvolio reads aloud that "Some are born great, others achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon ’em." And while Olivia’s steward may have been deceived by the flowery words penned with malice by the countesses’ waiting woman, Maria, audiences need fear no deception. Nay, all they must do is sit back and soak up the greatness before them. [ Read the review ]

ECO MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR IN RESURGENCE PLAY
Visitors to Newmarket’s Fairy Lake Park may want to keep their eyes and ears peeled for some unusual sights and sounds. Fear not however, it’s not a sign of strange things afoot in the park; rather it’s just Resurgence Theatre Company’s production of Beware the Falling Trees!, on now to Aug. 15. [ Read the article ]

ACTOR'S LIFE TAKES ON A LITTLE MORE DRAMA
At times, filled with self doubt and a self deprecating sense of humour, Christine Horne takes a refreshingly honest approach to acting. The 26-year-old Aurora native has defied the odds and the actor stereotype since graduating from York University’s theatre program four years ago. .... She will likely court more attention when she appears as Desdemona in CBC’s TV adaption of Othello this June, followed by her role as Viola in Resurgence Theatre Company’s production of Twelfth Night. "Her passion for theatre stood out", said Anthony Leo, General Manager of Resurgence. [ Read the article ]
