Melissa Stylianou appeared on the Toronto jazz scene eight years ago and quickly earned the esteem of the Canadian jazz community. John-Michael Scapin, 16, has earned his way to the top 10 in CBC’s Triple Sensation, a three-part reality special where talented Canadians aged 16 to 26 compete for a $150,000 scholarship from Indigo and Chapters to attend a world-class theatrical training institution of their choice anywhere in the world. "...Mr. Scapin has won several regional musical theatre competitions and is a recipient of a musical theatre category scholarship after competing in the York Region Celebration of the Arts. RESURGENCE FINDS OVER THE MOON WINNER
".. and now the York Shakespeare Festival injects some Canadian content with David French’s Salt-Water Moon. The play takes place in Newfoundland in 1926 and centres around the love story of two young people, Jacob Mercer, who has just returned to the Rock to win back the heart of his former flame, Mary Snow. NOTHING ROTTEN IN STATE OF NEWMARKET FOR RESURGENCE
"Something is rotten in the State of Denmark" the character Marcellus remarks in Act I Scene 4 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. That might be true, but, thankfully, nothing was rotten in Newmarket’s Fairy Lake Park last night; quite the opposite. ... I’ll admit I was somewhat unsure of what to expect regarding one of the Bard’s most celebrated and complex works being performed by a single actor. To put it mildly, the show is nothing short of a triumph. It’s marvellously minimalist yet wonderfully larger-than-life. Raoul Bhaneja, to his credit, knows his material inside and out.
He is Hamlet and by that I mean he is not just the character, he is the play itself brought to life. [ Read the article ]

Latin dancing, beats to benefit theatre
It was a night of seductive rhythm and latin sway when Newmarket's version of Dancing with the Stars hit the town on March 3. Six members from the community -- including mayor Tony Van Bynen -- were paired with professional Latin dancers to showcase an array of dance styles from tango to salsa at the Havana Nights Winter Gala.
