NEWS ARCHIVES Star-Crossed Love And Eternal Friendship Mark Resurgence’s 2009 Theatre Season Newmarket, ON, November 28, 2008 - Resurgence Theatre Company is proud to unveil an exciting line-up for the 2009 York Shakespeare Festival which will run from July 14 to August 23, 2009 - marking eleven seasons of producing professional outdoor theatre on the shores of Fairy Lake in Newmarket, Ontario. Next year’s Festival will kick off with THE LITTLE PRINCE, adapted from the international best seller by French writer and aviator Antoine de Saint Exupéry. The story begins as a pilot is forced to crash land in the Sahara Desert. While he tries to fix his plane he meets the Little Prince, a child who claims to be from another planet, Asteroid B-612. The two become friends as the Little Prince entertains the pilot with stories of why he had to leave his home, and all the curious characters he has met on his interplanetary journey to Earth. "One cannot see clearly except with the heart," says Resurgence co-Founder Anthony Leo, "it’s probably the most famous line from this enchanting and magical fable. The story of THE LITTLE PRINCE is one of the extraordinary power of the imagination and the indestructible bond of friendship - two reasons why it continues to be cherished by children and adults alike 65 years after it was first published." THE LITTLE PRINCE will be followed by William Shakespeare’s ROMEO & JULIET. The two protagonists love each other passionately as only teenagers can - while their families, addicted to hatred, embrace a culture of endless violence. To be united with her Romeo, Juliet dares to face the terrors of the tomb - but not even the best of plans can change the inevitable course of disaster. Romance, laughter and tragedy add up to the greatest love story of all time. Just in time for the holidays, Resurgence Theatre Company is introducing gift cards for the 2009 season for purchase. In addition, the Company has partnered with local retailers Everything Chocolate, Newmarket Blooms and Wild Child Baby Boutique to create unique holiday gift baskets that will continue giving all year. Each basket is themed after THE LITTLE PRINCE or ROMEO & JULIET and includes a gift card that can be redeemed when purchasing tickets to see the live productions at Fairy Lake this summer.
