August 5, 2008, King City, ON: The Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation and the York Region based Resurgence Theatre Company are pleased to present, "Beware the Falling Trees: Lorraine and the Great Moraine Adventure", running until August 15. Adapted from Loon Laughter: Ecological Fables & Nature Tales by Paul Leet Aird from University of Toronto and written by Amy Henkel and Anthony Leo from Resurgence Theatre Company, BEWARE is a fun and interactive play that educates young audiences about the importance of protecting the Oak Ridges Moraine. Featuring members of Resurgence's Senior Youth Theatre Conservatory, the play focuses on the importance of trees and the role that they play in helping to preserve and protect the Moraine's water quality and quantity. "It was a pleasure to attend the premiere and see the children in the audience react so enthusiastically," said Kim Gavine, Executive Director, Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation. "Children are the best ambassadors for environmental stewardship and we know this play will be an educational yet entertaining experience for children and their parents." It is hard not to cheer and clap, when Lorraine the deer discovers that her friend Winston plans to cut down all of the trees on a section of the Moraine and build a giant disco, she has to take action! Lorraine and her friends, among them mystic toads and militant salamanders, embark on a journey to save the Moraine. It has long been recognized for its importance as wildlife habitat and a source of groundwater. It is the starting point of the 65 rivers flowing into Lake Ontario, Lake Simcoe and the Kawartha Lakes, and is the source of drinking water for over 250,000 people.
