The workshop series will include:

Introduction to Acting
Instructor: Robert Gontier
(Drama Instructor, Lorraine Kisma Theatre For Young People)
This class offers the basic fundamentals of acting for the stage. An emphasis is placed on creative expression through theatre exercises and explorations that are taught in a positive learning environment. Students will learn necessary stage elements to help promote performance skills, focus and teamwork. Students will be encouraged to use their own talent as a launching off point to further their acting potential - an ideal class for beginners.

Character Development: Building a Life
Instructor: Barbara Cotterchio-Milligan
(Theatre Ontario Talent Bank Member)
This workshop is an interactive hands on experience that will provide you with new tools to make any character that you portray a fuller person. Discover simple methods to use information gleaned from the text as well as internal information to make your role more exciting.

A Practical Guide to Shakespeare
Instructor: Lee Wilson
(Co-Founder of Resurgence Theatre Company)
Unleashing Shakespeare’s text and ‘mining’ for the words that help actors and directors stage a play. Discussion will focus on Shakespeare’s ideology on the theatre and how it reflected the times he lived in. Participants should come away with a better understanding of how to approach his texts and how to find the clues Shakespeare has given us to achieve a higher level of performance.

Audition Technique
Instructor: Anthony Leo
(Executive Producer of Aircraft Pictures)
This workshop will examine the audition process and offer practical advice for improving your audition technique. It will offer advice on choosing the right audition material, what you can and should do to make sure you’re prepared and offer relaxation techniques. The session will also provide tips on how to navigate the professional theatre & film industry including how to get your acting career started.

The workshop series will take place at the Newmarket Public Library and is part of Resurgence’s ongoing arts outreach program which also includes the Summer Youth Theatre Conservatory in partnership with The Country Day School that puts high school students through an intense six week training program and earning them two credits towards their high school diploma.
