BMO Nesbitt BurnsRESURGENCE THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUCES
BMO NESBITT BURNS SUMMER PLAY READING SERIES
July 7, 2005 - News Release

Resurgence Theatre Company is proud to announce the BMO NESBITT BURNS SUMMER PLAY READING SERIES at Fairy Lake Park in Newmarket. In a temporary departure from their regular summer programming as Resurgence gears up for an exciting three year expansion for the York Shakespeare Festival, the company will host a number of staged readings that will include A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. Featuring some of Canada's finest professional actors, these events will showcase some of the Bard's best-loved plays in a setting that Robert Cushman of The National Post called "magical and enchanting".

Resurgence’s Board of Directors has given the company a new mandate - to become the greatest outdoor professional theatre company in Canada. They are currently finalizing a three year plan that will set the company on a clear path to achieving this goal.

"We’re thrilled to be working with BMO Nesbitt Burns as our title sponsor during this exciting time." says Board President Anthony Leo, "Thanks to them and the support of our other loyal sponsors, this play reading series will be free to the public." Taking place in the pavilion at Fairy Lake Park, audiences will have the opportunity to bring their own blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of open-air Shakespeare at no charge.

In addition, Resurgence's successful Summer Youth Theatre Conservatory will present a new play for young audiences based on the work of Hans Christian Andersen to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the author's birth. THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES AND OTHER STORIES will also be presented at Fairy Lake Park from August 5 to 19th on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:00 pm - an ideal introduction to the theatre for children ages 4 to 10. Tickets for this show are $5 each and can only be purchased at the door.

The play readings of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Taming of the Shrew are fundraisers for the York Shakespeare Festival.
