NEWS ARCHIVES RESURGENCE ANNOUNCES NEW ARTISTIC PRODUCER AND KNOCK OUT SEASON Resurgence Theatre Company is proud to announce that celebrated Canadian Actor/Director, David Ferry has been appointed the organization's new Artistic Producer. Now entering its sixth season producing the York Shakespeare Festival at Fairy Lake in Newmarket, David will be responsible for programming all aspects of the festival, including directing Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, and The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) which will run from July 16 to August 22, 2004. "After an extensive search, one that saw resumes flooding in from across Canada, we are extremely happy and honoured to have an artist of David's calibre at Resurgence's helm", says newly elected Board President Anthony Leo. Leo co-founded Resurgence Theatre Company in 1999 with Matthew John Lundvall, recent Celebration of Women award-winner Sheila Pearce and Lee Wilson. David is no stranger to running a theatre company, having been the Artistic Director of Bluewater Summer Playhouse for five years. In addition to directing plays such as Lobby Hero, Listen to the Wind, The Drawer Boy and Perfect Pie, his acting career has taken him to stages across Canada, on and off Broadway, and Los Angeles. Recent stage roles include Prospero in The Tempest for The Festival of Classics, Teddy in Hockey Mom, Hockey Dad at the Factory Theatre, Jon in Tillsonburg for the Canadian Stage Company, and Reuban in The Dogpatch at the Factory Theatre. His vast television and film work has included Paradise Falls, Blue Murder, The Associates, Doc, Road to Avonlea, Boondock Saints and the lead role of Walker Devereaux on CBC Radio's hit series Midnight Cab for three seasons. He has received two Dora Mavor Moore nominations for Best Actor and recently earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in theatre direction from the University of Victoria. "In just a few months, David has already assembled two knock-out productions for this summer", says Leo. Famed actress Camilla Scott (star of Toronto's Mamma Mia, Crazy for You, TV's Camilla Scott Show, and Law & Order) will star in the prized role of Beatrice with her real-life husband, actor Paul Eves, playing opposite her as Benedick. David Ferry has also programmed a tremendous company of actors, designers and technicians from across Canada to perform in the two plays.
