DIRECTOR'S NOTES
Resurgence Theatre Company’s Senior Youth Theatre Conservatory is a six-week training program that introduces high school students to the professional process of mounting a play. We have spent the first three and half weeks of this program investigating The Jungle Book from every angle - textually, visually and physically. I am so proud of this group of students. Everything you see on stage is a result of their creativity, focus and imagination: all (but one!) of the props were created by these students, all of the puppets, masks and costumes were as well. It was their musical ingenuity that invented each of the drumbeats that you are about to hear; it was their hard work and dedication that helped crack open the text. We have spent a great deal of energy examining this play to discover in the inner workings of each character - why do they behave as they do? What do they want? Who are they trying to change? The Jungle Book teaches us that true relationships are created through generosity and love. I am proud to say that the students of the Senior Youth Theatre Conservatory have given every facet of this project an abundance of care, love and attention. Welcome to our Jungle....
