A Hope & Hell Theatre Production

Resurgence Theatre Company was pleased to welcome Hope & Hell Theatre for a limited engagement of Hamlet {solo}. Winner of the 2006 Montreal English Critics Circle Award for Best Visiting Production, Hamlet {solo} is a fresh, vital and engaging retelling of the greatest play on earth.

NOTHING ROTTEN IN STATE OF NEWMARKET FOR RESURGENCE
"Something is rotten in the State of Denmark" the character Marcellus remarks in Act I Scene 4 of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. That might be true, but, thankfully, nothing was rotten in Newmarket’s Fairy Lake Park last night; quite the opposite. ... I’ll admit I was somewhat unsure of what to expect regarding one of the Bard’s most celebrated and complex works being performed by a single actor. To put it mildly, the show is nothing short of a triumph. It’s marvellously minimalist yet wonderfully larger-than-life. Raoul Bhaneja, to his credit, knows his material inside and out. He is Hamlet and by that I mean he is not just the character, he is the play itself brought to life. [ Read the article ]

RESURGENCE FINDS OVER THE MOON WINNER
".. and now the York Shakespeare Festival injects some Canadian content with David French’s Salt-Water Moon. The play takes place in Newfoundland in 1926 and centres around the love story of two young people, Jacob Mercer, who has just returned to the Rock to win back the heart of his former flame, Mary Snow. The play is an emotional roller-coaster with more ups and downs than your average elevator. [ Read the article ]

YOU FANCY YOURSELF

Written by Maja Ardal
Directed by Mary Francis Moore

Starring Maja Ardal

[ David's Notes ]

Production Manager: Jonathan Rooke
Technical Staff: William Hofstetter & John McKinnon

The audience was entertained and amazed as Maja Ardal, tackled a dozen contrasting characters in this one-hour performance. In this story of a quirky adolescence, young immigrant Elsa tries to fit into 50s Edinburgh society, where people tend to be suspicious and judgmental. Elsa's world contains friends (Adelle) and enemies (ramrod-stiff teacher Miss Campbell), but she sees them through the filter of her Norse imagination, which relies first on fairy tales and later on Hollywood films.
